Army Boxing

Army Boxing

A Boxing Tournament took place which was held in front of the Castle Bandstand on Tuesday evening. Light music was played by the band of the Royal Engineers prior to the boxing. Most of the seats in the amphitheatre were occupied and the grass slopes provided a 'grandstand' accommodation. The contestants were all sappers serving with the Royal Engineers, either in A or B company and B company ran out the winners by seven victories to two. Each fight was scheduled to last three rounds, and all but two did go the full distance. During the interval the ring was occupied by various members of the physical training staff who gave a most comprehensive and illuminating display of close combat. A Major Woodrow is mentioned but then the article is uncompleted due to not being copied correctly.
