Additional Info: Sergeant John Noel Waddington previously posted as missing, is now reported as "missing, believed killed in action". Clitheroe Advertiser and Times Friday 11th August 1942. His Air Commodore states, "Although there is, I fear little reason to doubt the accuracy of the report that your son was killed in action, it will be necessary to record the casualty for official purposes as "missing, believed killed in action" until the death is confirmed by written evidence, or in the absence of such information it becomes necessary to presume his death owing to lapse of time. Son of Albert Edward and Mary Theresa (Nee Shenton) of the Old Hall, Waddington. Married St George, Hanover Square, London 1907. Sergeant Waddington whose grandfather the late Mr John Waddington, restored Waddington Old Hall, joined the R.A.F before the war. Only 22 years of age he took part in many raids including the first thousand bomber raid on Cologne.
