Other info: William Dickinson was born on the 30th October 1907. In his early life he lived at Number 86 Queen Street, Great Harwood, before moving to Ribchester. It was here that he married Florence Anderton.
On entering the Navy Bill first trained at H.M.S Arthur, a navel shore base in Skegness. After training, Bill joined H.M.S. Fabius and saw service in the Mediterranean.
The ship was in harbour at Bari in Italy when German Bombers attacked on 9th April 1945. A number of ships were sunk or badly damaged during the raid. H.M.S Fabius was one of the ships hit by a bomb. It was carrying ammunition at the time and Bill did not survive the disastrous explosion.
