Additional info: Lieutenant Richard Stewart killed in the North East whilst serving with the Bomb Disposal squad of the Royal Engineers. Second son of Mr and Mrs Ralph and Ellen Stewart. Married to Vera Stewart and leaves two young sons. Was living at 76 Frankland Street, Blackburn. An elementary schoolboy, he took up the study of of cotton manufacture and research at the Clitheroe Technical School, passing onto Blackburn Technical College and Manchester University where he received his degree of A.M.C.T. Prior to joining the Forces he was engaged in textile research work for Messrs. Ashton Bros, Carfield Mill, Hyde. The internment took place Tuesday.
