Additional Info: Second Son of Mr William and Sarah Briggs, of 5 Nethertown, Whalley. Richard died from his wounds. Gunner Richard Briggs joined the forces in November 1942, went to France last October. Richard was formerly employed by Messrs Thos. Varley and Sons Ltd, Whalley. Popular member of the Police Messenger Service. As a boy, he was a chorister at the Parish Church, and in recent years had assisted as a bell-ringer. On Wednesday evening his fellow ringers rang a peal as a tribute to his memory. The eldest son (William) of Mr and Mrs Briggs is with the Royal Navy in Far Eastern waters.
